TS 16949 Certification

The automotive industry Quality Management System (QMS) consists of ISO/TS 16949 Standard and the related customer-specific requirements (CSR).

  • The 3rd edition is the latest version and it was published on the 15th of June 2009. It has been technically updated to align with ISO 9001:2008 Standard. The previous revision was based on ISO 9001:2000.
  • Customer-Specific Requirements (CSR) is the additional requirements imposed by the OEM. These requirements will form part of the audit criteria during the certification & internal audits.

ISO/TS 16949:2008 was developed by IATF (International Automotive Task Force) members and approved by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) for publication. It is an industry specific Quality Management System (QMS) catering for automotive industries with the following objectives:

  • Promote continue improvement
  • Emphasis defect prevention, and
  • Continual waste and variation reduction.

  1. Preliminary Audit (optional):The auditors conduct a preliminary audit to determine whether any requirements associated with this standard have already been implemented in your company and, if so, which ones.
  2. Documentation Review: The auditing team determines the extent to which the documentation for your quality management system already meets the ISO/TS 16949 requirements.
  3. Certification Audit: You demonstrate the practical application of your quality management system, and our auditors test how effective it is.
  4. Issue of Certificate: Once all criteria have been met, your company is awarded the certificate, demonstrating the integrity of your management system and its compliance with ISO/TS 16949.
  5. Surveillance Audits: Our annual surveillance audits help you to continuously optimize your processes.

Most Important Changes To The 3rd Issue of Certification Specifications

The new ISO / TS 16949:2009 includes new aspects of ISO 9001:2008 relevant to certification. It also includes changes to the 3rd issue of ISO / TS 16949. The 3rd technical specification (also known as TS3) is based on ISO 9001:2008 and does not include any new technical requirements.
